Archives for the month of: August, 2016

With Labor Day around the corner, I can feel that I will have 3 days instead of 2, this weekend.  I used to love the national holidays when they fell on a Monday or Friday.  I’d pack up the car, get myself to a campground or beach and lay like broccoli and veg.  Right now, not so much.

RV’s have become so inclusive of home amenities that sure enough, I land in the lap of campers with TV’s, radios, and microwaves. There goes the peace and quiet.  AND getting there. Ugh.  The traffic on the freeway or the congestion of airports does nothing to calm the soul.

So, I stay home and rearrange the DNA of my space.  Yes, I believe that our spaces have a DNA that we give them when we birth ourselves into them.  Our homes take on hereditary behaviors.  Clutter breeds in the night.  That molecular model remains until we change it.

Deciding to mix it up by creating an office in the guest room, getting rid of the treadmill, bringing in the free weights (requires less space and gives more room to stretch), letting go of the well loved couch and buying new dishes (chipped ones tell you that parts of you have broken off and you cannot endure), all of that brings forward trust.  You know who you are today and rearranging the space to hold your present self creates an authentic imprint.

Plus, you won’t be sipping your coffee and looking at neglected piles of your creativity past.  Creativity new. That’s what breathes new life into a space. And, in turn, your psyche.

So, rock it!  Turn on the tunes, dance your way through it.  Dig out the Jimi Hendrix and rise anew.  And never look back.

When there is less of you, there is more of you.  Less pounds? You have created openings for expression you did not have before.  Less possessions?  You have created more room in your space  to fill with things you love or someone you love. Less social commitments?  You have created room for more contemplation and alone time.  This opens the door to what you really want.

Do you know what you really want?  Get clarity by clearing whatever is in the way of bringing it forward.  Lay down your burden and pick up your intention.  Let the empty spaces speak.  Let the gap live.  Wait. Watch.  See what moves in.  Then, reformulate.

Working with Less creates the opportunity for More.  They are connected.  It’s true.

We are never really starting over, are we?  Our do-over or new beginning stems from a rich history.

I see this as  I trim my spider plants that always birth baby plants.  When I trim them off (the babies)  and give them a soak (the roots are there), they grow bigger and better than they ever could have if they had stayed attached to the plant, their birth mother, their history.  They couldn’t do it without their source, but they sure can create a new story all on their own.  Then, they birth another and another.  And the cycle begins again.

Stay original.  Just give your original fresh starts.

Everyone needs a surface. This is the space that opens up creativity.

When surfaces are cluttered and stacks of paper abound, pots and pans rule, unfinished projects are side by side and many opened containers of makeup, toothpaste, soap and Q-tips create a landscape, well, Genius is shut off.  The mind can only hold so much and if overwhelm is present, then all of the thought streams either go to avoiding those spaces of overwhelm or trying to find a space that is tranquil and open.  That’s when we go to a coffee shop that has Wifi to work or watch a movie or to socialize.  It drives us from our home.  There is no room for us.

Take a look at your surfaces and see if there is room for your creativity, whether it be cooking, organizing, writing, working or just simply to place something beautiful that makes you happy.

Just do one surface at a time.  Give yourself a moment of clarity.  It will lead to other moments of clarity.  And pretty soon your creativity will bloom and grow into your space. Ahh…there you are.  All of you. Thank you.

Your space can be flexible like a rubber band that conforms to the shape it surrounds.  Your space surrounds you and all of your changes.  It expands and contracts with the changes you make.

Are you facing an empty nest, shrinking staff, expansion of your nest and office, new opportunity, retirement? If you are losing weight, put your space on a diet.  Slim down areas that are congested and bulging with overflow.  Release your space and allow the new to enter.

If you are expanding your world, open up your space. Clean the windows for clear vision, move the furniture to reflect open paths of freedom.  Choose the direction of your personal flow, inside and out.

So, go ahead, dig in. Do it. Now. Then, smile at the rewards you internalize and the attraction that you create.  Those entering your world will arrive at a different container that is updated and true.  You.
